hikaru utada | SCIENCE FICTION
2024. show direction, production design, lighting design, video content, technical direction, programming.
Creating Hikaru Utada's Science Fiction Tour was a fever dream in the best sense. Under the impeccable creative direction and production design of Jason Ardizzone-West, a monolithic, otherworldly landscape takes over this 110' wide arena stage — only possible in Japanese arenas. Initially inspired by retro machines, nine cubed video columns rise from CNC-carved foam dunes. Tasked with bringing this world to life through lighting and video design, FragmentNine's Jeremy Lechterman and Jackson Gallagher brought out all the stops. The result is a hybrid installation piece / traditional concert design — a loudbox production that was a labor of love for the entire team, and epitomizes commitment and collaboration.
